Where Have All the Leaders Gone?

Home. That's right, a pretty simple answer to a vitally important question. Let me start with what I believe to be a fact: I think President Obama is an exceptional leader. However, I view him in a similar way to someone unwilling to take a drink, ever...with a bit of suspicion. Simply put, I don't trust anyone not willing to take a sip and I also don't trust someone willing to put himself through the scrutiny of running for and becoming president, espcially a family man or woman (Obviously some people have plenty of legitimate reasons for not taking a drink, maybe it's a bad example.) However, I respect both for their discipline and willingness to venture where very few dare to go. Enough of the bad drinking analogy, I realize that more and more qualified leaders are not taking the leap into presidential politics. One need go no further than the current Republican race to realize that there is a low supply and high demand of leaders in the party to take on President Obama. People like Jeb Bush and Chris Christie would have won the primary going away. So why didn't they enter? Perhaps it was a simple political miscalculation. Or, perhaps it's even more simple than that. The social media viral 24 hour news cycle political world we currently live in makes it virtually impossible for any qualified, good-standing, well-intentioned person to enter the realm without his or her name and his or her family being drug through the mud for things that are often small issues in the world most of us live. Why then, would someone with a good career, a family and steady blood pressure enter a world where no one, not even their political allies, actually care for them or their families personally? Certainly there is a love and duty to one's country that I think most candidates actually feel, and that god for that. We have had 44 presidents in this country and here are a few in my opinion who's personal lives would not have stood up the scrutiny today:
-Thomas Jefferson
-FDR
-JFK
